Folate state of premature infants.

چکیده
The recent widespread application of the microbiological assay of folate in serum, whole blood, and red cells has led to many reports on the folate status of infants (Matoth et al., 1964a, b; Matoth, Pinkas, and Sroka, 1965; Vanier and Tyas, 1966), including some on the folate status of premature infants (Shojania and Gross 1964; Strelling et al., 1966; Vanier and Tyas, 1967). This study was designed to investigate the serum and red cell folate levels in premature infants from birth to 6 months. The changes in folate levels of these premature infants were related to the folate status of the mothers, to the incidence of anaemia in the infants, and to the infants' dietary folate.

Evaluation of the Effect of Nest Posture on the Sleep-wake State of Premature Infants
Background: Premature birth is a major cause of infant mortality in developed countries. Newborns confined to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are in a rapid stage of brain development. As such, sleep plays a pivotal role in the proper brain development of newborns. However, this developmental aspect is often disregarded due to the lack of information. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the...

Zuelzer and Ogden first clearly defined the syndrome of megaloblastic anaemia in infants, which responds to folic acid, as long ago as 1946. They concluded: 'In an analysis of etiologic conditions, infections and nutritional deficiencies appear significant while age, race and possibly prematurity and maternal anemia are predisposing factors'. 5 ofthe 25 infants they described had been born prem...

In order to focus on family care, this study was conducted to determine the effect of the first skin contact of fathers with premature infants hospitalized on their anxiety in the neonatal intensive care unit. Methods: This...
